Vacancy Announcement (2 positions)

Spirit in Education Movement (SEM) is looking for a Cashier (1 position) and a Media Production Officer (1 position) for the project of Promoting a Culture of Peace and Sustainability in Myanmar (PCPSM).

SEM is a cross-border civil society organization founded in 1996, working under the umbrella of the Sathirakoses-Nagrapradipa Foundation (SNF), aiming to offer alternatives to mainstream education rooted in personal and societal transformation. SEM has been committed to empowering grassroots and civil society actors in Myanmar to build a movement of people that empowers local communities to address their needs in a participatory and sustainable manner. SEM’s strategy is to continuously promote peace and democracy by supporting active citizens to become change agents, capable of mobilizing wider movements of people with common visions of a just and equitable society.

Cashier (1 position)

Main Responsibilities:

  • Withdraw money for program expenses as needed
  • Make regular records of withdrawals and expenses
  • Collate all expenses for the monthly expense reports
  • Keep receipts in order for yearly audits and donor reports
  • Copy all receipts for accounting and audits
  • Assist with budget planning when needed
  • Prepare annual financial report
  • Final check all expenses with program staff before sending to head office
  • Request money from head office for program expenses when needed
  • Clear up advance money for the program with staff regularly
  • Work closely with a head accountant for all accounting-related issues and make sure all balances are correct

Program Support

  • Pay rent and bills; reimburse and pay staff, training participants, and guest presenters
  • Arrange and by air, train, or bus tickets for training participants and guest presenters
  • Arrange regular computer maintenance and office repairs and maintenance as necessary
  • Arrange to address internet and office phone problems as needed
  • Purchase office supplies and office equipment as needed
  • Other duties as directed

Desired Qualifications

  • Minimum three years experience in financial management
  • Experience preparing budgets and financial reports
  • Experience in budget planning and financial disbursement
  • Fluent in written and spoken Thai; good written and spoken English
  • Knowledge of Myanmar’s social and political context is a plus
  • Previous NGO experience

Full-Time Position: 40 hours per week

Employment Type: 12 months with the possibility to renew (3 months of probation)

Location: Chiang Mai, Thailand

Media Production Officer (1 position)

Main Responsibilities:

  • Design print and online publications such as posters, leaflets, and reports, as well as exhibitions to strengthen the work of the PCPSM project
  • Film footage and edit videos to support visual content development
  • Collaborate with the team to create and develop a media advocacy strategy to strengthen the work of the PCPSM project
  • Assist with awareness raising activities, including organizing public events, workshops, meetings, webinars etc.
  • Assist with managing social media channels and the website, and contribute to the development of effective communication to promote advocacy work
  • Work with team members to provide input for project report
  • Assist with other PCPSM project work as needed

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong interest and experience in media and advocacy work
  • Understanding of the political context in Myanmar and Thailand, and commitment to supporting social justice movements
  • Ability to work actively, independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines, maintain flexible working hours, and comfortable traveling domestically and internationally
  • Demonstrate initiative, creativity, and understanding of communication and media trends
  • Proficiency in graphic design software and photo/video editing tools
  • Intermediate English, and Thai and/or Burmese and/or ethnic languages is a plus
  • Open-minded, respect to diversity, and a strong commitment to maintaining digital and personal security
  • Driver’s license is a plus
